Amboseli or Tsavo? How to choose

Amboseli and Tsavo are two of Kenya’s most visited parks, and each can be reached by road from Nairobi. They suit different trips.

Choose Amboseli for the view

Amboseli is small and open. Its elephants walk across the plains with Kilimanjaro behind them, and the clearest views are usually early in the morning in the dry months.

Choose Tsavo for space

Tsavo is vast. Tsavo East is flat and wild, and its elephants are often coated in red dust. Tsavo West adds hills, lava flows and the clear pools of Mzima Springs.

Or do both

A four-day trip can cover Amboseli and Tsavo West, and Tsavo sits between Nairobi and the coast, so it combines well with a beach stay.
